Product Information Altro cut-to-shape flooring is one of the best ways to ensure your DIY van conversion gives that wow-factor! The DIY Guide This guide is for making your own Altro cut-to-shape floor. For installing your own cut-to-shape floor, you can find our guide by clicking here! Prerequisites So, there are a couple of tasks that need to be complete prior to starting. You should have a ply floor cut-to-shape. You should have an appropriate length of Altro flooring in your specified colour. Now, you're ready to start! Tools & Products Appropriate Length of Altro flooring. Cut-To-Shape Ply Floor Hook-blade(s) (Stanley or similar) PPE - Safety glasses & appropriate cut-resistant gloves highly recommended. Step-By-Step Note: You will be placing the Altro face-down on the surface. So ensure you are working on a flat, clean surface. This will minimise the likelihood of any damage being caused during the marking/cutting process. Roll our your Altro flooring face-down (the shiny finish will be face down and the dull side face-up). Place your cut-to-shape floor face-down on top of the Altro. If you have a two or three piece floor, ensure you have the pieces butted together as tight as possible. Using a Biro (not a pencil) trace around your floor carefully. Remove your ply floor pieces. Use your hook-blade to carefully cut out the traced line. Now get the kettle on, pour a cuppa, stand back & admire your handy-work. Because it's time to install this in the van! You can find our cut-to-shape installation guide here. The DIY Guide This guide is for installation of the Altro cut-to-shape flooring INSIDE the van. Prerequisites So, there are a couple of tasks that need to be complete prior to starting the fitting. The windows should already be installed. The walls should be ply-lined & carpeted. The floor should then be ply-lined and secured in-place. Now, you're ready to start! Tools & Products Cut-to-shape Altro flooring. BLUE High- temperature contact adhesive Solvent cleaner Length of timber the approximate width of the van. A piece of cardboard. A second pair of hands/feet within shouting distance will not go amiss. PPE - appropriate gas-mask & gloves highly recommended. Figure 1: Fitting the Altro cut-to-shape flooring is effectively a two-step process. Step 1 is to bond the front half of the floor & step 2 is to bond the rear half. Step-By-Step Clean down the ply-lined floor. Ensure all stones/debris are removed prior to overlaying the Altro. Place the Altro cut-to-shape floor inside the van and position it carefully. When you're happy with the positioning. Place the timber horizontally across the van just in front of the wheel arches. Now ask your friend to place their spare pair of feet on the timber and slowly raise the front of the Altro until your friend can hold it upright in the air. Carefully spray the BLUE high temperature flooring adhesive on BOTH the ply floor and the underside of the Altro (use your cardboard to ensure you don't spray the adhesive on your carpeted walls/seats etc!). Allow the adhesive to go 'tacky'. Now slowly lower the Altro down, pressing it in to place. Starting at the timber-end & centre, then working your way forward & outwards towards the front seats of the van. At this point you will have the front half of the Altro stuck down and you'll be ready to repeat the process with the rear half of the van. Reposition your friend in the front of the altro (which is not bonded to the ply floor). Raise the rear half of the Altro until your friend can hold it upright in the air. Carefully spray the BLUE high temperature flooring adhesive on BOTH the ply floor and the underside of the Altro (use your cardboard to ensure you don't spray the adhesive on your carpeted walls/seats etc!). Allow the adhesive to go 'tacky'. Now slowly lower the Altro down, pressing it in to place. Starting at centre of the van, then working your way forward & outwards towards the rear doors of the van.
